Lounge Thoughts
Pitch a Friend is right around the corner on July 11th and we can’t wait! This is one of our favorite events and its always a fun time whether your presenting, being presented, or watching from the audience. We love seeing all the time and dedication that friends put into pitching their single buddy. It’s really a love letter from one friend to another.
While we generally like to let your creative juices flow and try not to bias your approach to a presentation, we do get asked all the time “What makes a good pitch”. I thought I’d take a moment to share five tips on what we think does well with the audience.
Tip #1: Use Humor The audience loves when a presentation uses a lot of humor. Whether its a well timed joke or you post an embarrassing slide of your friend, the audience loves the authenticity in humor. Humor keeps the audience engaged and makes it less likely anyone in the audience will drift off to sleep. Slightly NSFW humor also sometimes does well, we are hosting in a 21+ venue after all.
Tip #2: Pick a theme Some of the best presentations we’ve seen pick a theme for the whole presentation. Whether its an Amazon Store page selling your friend, or a pitch to the Sharks, or a Spongebob themed presentation, the audience loves a consistent theme. It shows off your creative skills and makes the presentation a little more fun.
Tip #3: Make it interactive An interactive presentation keeps the audience engaged and makes the content way more memorable. We’ve seen presenters do a choose your own adventure style, a trivia night style, to just simply asking the audience questions. The more interactive the better.
Tip #4: A live performance If your presentee has a special skill or talent, showing it off in front of the crowd is always a hit! It shows your friends skills and wow’s the audience. We’ve also seen presenters read a poem about their friend and perform a ukulele song about their friend.
Tip #5: Include Videos Many presenters choose to use videos in their presentations. They provide more depth and are often time very funny. The only word of advice here is that we don’t have sound for presentations so make sure they don’t rely on audio.
To wrap it all up, let your creative process go wild! The more creative the better and the more likely that your friend will stand out. We encourage you to be as ambitious as possible in presenting your friend.
As a reminder, Pitch A Friend presentations are due on July 3rd, so get to work! If you have any questions as you’re building out your presentation send us an email or dm us on instagram.

Time for fun!
It’s time for another Tarot reading with the Seattle Social Club! This month, I asked the cards about “What’s in store for members of the Seattle Social Club this summer?”. Wouldn’t you know it, the Two of Pentacles is what was pulled!

The Two of Pentacles is a card all about balance and resourcefulness! You may be trying to find or maintain balance in your life and in particular your love life. As you can see in the card imagery, you’ve got the waves in the background and you’re life is the ship. There are always ups and downs in life (the waves) but just like the ship, you are resourceful, adaptable and flexible enough to ride right through them!
Additionally we can see the man juggling and the infinity weaving between them, warning you that if you try to juggle too many things or people and you don’t prioritize what’s important or what leads to your happiness you may find yourself in a cycle of ups and downs and lacking balance.
In dating, you should focus your energy on those who make you happy and don’t take away from your life, and leave the rest behind. You may be struggling to find the right balance between yours and your potential partners needs leading to an imbalance that causes stress. Prioritize figuring out whether your are ready to make space for a new relationship and whether, like the ship, you’re ready to adapt parts of your life to make room for the needs of your partner alongside yours.
It’s summer and there’s tons of fun to be had but make sure you don’t try to juggle too much or too many people. Summer is a time for fun and stress free living, so make sure that whatever you do this summer you find a balance that leaves you feeling strong, energized, and happy with your life.
Remember you are resourceful, you are adaptable, and you are flexible enough to get through any up or down in life, you just have to remind yourself of what you are capable of! You are enough, and you can get through whatever life throws at you!
And if you need more help in getting back out there in dating or increasing your community, we’re here to help!
